Hitch-hiking Student group Raise over £34,000

A group of students who hitched their way from the Steel City to Portugal’s second largest city have raised a staggering £34,000 for charity.

The University of Sheffield’s hitch-hiking society, Bummit, have raised the cash on their ‘big bummit’ to Porto, Portugal over the Easter break.

Bummit, founded in 2003, is the world’s largest student organised hitch-hiking group, and in it’s history has raised over £1.1million for local South Yorkshire charities.

This year they raised money for Weston Park Cancer Charity, Snowdrop, Bens Centre and Sayit, with 150 students taking part.

Bummit run two main hitch-hiking events per year, in November they went to Glasgow, raising over £25,000.
