A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly injuring two adults and a child at a Sheffield school.
Police were called to reports of an incident involving a sharp object at Birley Academy at around 8.50am yesterday.
Two women in their 20s and a child suffered minor injuries as a result of this incident.
Dan Thorpe, Assistant Chief Constable of South Yorkshire police, said: “Two adults and one child suffered minor injuries and were checked over at the scene by colleagues from Yorkshire ambulance service.
“Minutes within the initial call we had arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in police custody.”
The two women both suffered minor injuries, one from a sharp object which was thought to be broken glass.
The child was assaulted but received no physical injuries.
Elaine Gibson, Press Officer at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: “A number of patients were checked over on the scene and did not need to be conveyed to hospital.”
The school went into lockdown following the incident but headteacher Victoria Hall confirmed ‘the school will be open as usual’ today.
Julie Paltrow, 55, who lives on Thornbridge Road, said: “At first I wondered what was happening because there were a lot of cars and I could see parents were distressed.
“I found it shocking because all of my children have gone to that school and there has never been anything like that before.”
Acc Thorpe has asked people to refrain from posting any images or footage on social media to reduce speculation.
