Former sheffield citizen who learnt how to walk and talk again after a horrible fall completes the London Marathon and raises £8,000 for charity

Connor Blundell, 25, completed the London Marathon with his father despite facing a life changing fall.

Connor Blundell and his father Chris Blundell were among the thousands of runners who took on the London Marathon on the 21st of April this year.

Connor Blundell said: “The atmosphere was electric, running through London was incredible.”

Connor was studying abroad in Valencia, Spain when a serious fall from a platform, 4m from the ground, left him with a severe brain injury that put him in a coma.

In the last four years, Connor has undergone intense rehabilitation to learn how to walk and talk again. In the past, Connor has always been an avid runner. He previously completed the Manchester Marathon in 2019.

Connor said: “ I’ve always run since I was young, I got into running in year 4. I also did cross country for Sheffield for a bit and loved it.”

He said: “Running the marathon was really special as I wanted to go back to doing something I loved. Running was something I did before and to run it with my dad was really special.”

Connor plans to run the Paris Marathon next year with colleagues and his dad. Through his run, Connor was able to raise an amazing £8,000 which was well over his £2,000 target for both Crisis UK and WaterAid.

Connor said: “In the UK, we witness people experiencing homelessness everyday. We’re fortunate not to face water-insecurity and sanitation problems on the same scale as the 11 countries acted in by WaterAid.”

Crisis is a charity for people who are experiencing homelessness and WaterAid provides clean water, decent toilets and hygiene knowledge to people who don’t yet have access to them.
