The 146th edition of the Steel City derby takes place this Sunday with the stakes as high as ever for both teams.
Sheffield United are locked in a three-way title race that manager Chris Wilder described as one that ‘will go to the wire’.
Meanwhile, Danny Rohl’s Wednesday remain in the hunt for one of the few play-off spots left up for grabs in the hope that they can reach the promise land of the Premier League.
Neal Shackleton of the Where Blades Walk YouTube channel told Shef Live: “I’m feeling a little nervous now as the game approaches fast.
“Factor in it’s a derby game and, obviously, there is added pressure but I feel our current setup should be able to cope with them.”
Fin Boot of the Owls Hub Sheffield Wednesday fan page said: “After the last two away performances I have a bit more confidence.
“However, with our home form across the season I have absolutely no clue what to expect from us.”
The reverse fixture earlier this season saw the rivalry reignited for the first time in over five years, with United running out eventual one-nil winners, but was marred by fan trouble that the clubs and police will be looking to prevent this time round.
A total of 22 people had been identified and banned by the clubs from attending future matches, according to South Yorkshire Police.
Ch Supt Cherie Buttle, from South Yorkshire Police, said that the force was continuing to work with both clubs ahead of the fixture on the 16th.
Fans of both teams will be hoping to avoid any clashes at the ground on Sunday but fear trouble could arise elsewhere in the city.
Mr Shackleton said: “There’s always been a certain section of fans intent on causing trouble, however, I think the Sunday noon kick-off should quell lots of tension.
“The problems will arise later on in the West Street area, I’m almost sure of it.”
Mr Boot said: “I’ve seen us play United at home many times and never have had any issues, but with it being a big derby there’s always going to be fights and issues between the fans.”
