A fundraising music event is set to take place at a Sheffield pub to raise money for staff at recently-closed grassroots venue the Dorothy Pax.

The fundraiser will take place on 22 March at the Hallamshire Hotel on West Street.

Posting on Instagram, a spokesperson said: “Since we opened our doors as a music venue in early 2024, The Dorothy Pax team were so generous with their time and advice.”

The fundraiser is set to feature local music bands Patio Gas and FrogManGo, with Dorothy Pax frequented band Speed for Lovers headlining.

An online fundraising appeal Pax Staff & freelance fundraiser was started by The Dorothy Pax employees and freelancers through Instagram, and has raised up to £4,917 out of their £6,000 goal already.

Speed for Lovers, which shared the appeal, announced online that their fee from the upcoming fundraiser will also be donated.

All ticket sale profits, from the upcoming night, are also going to be going towards the staff of the Dorothy Pax as well as any cash donations on the day.

The Hallamshire also said “The spirit of community… ran right through the very bricks and mortar of The Dorothy Pax.”

The event comes following the sudden announcement made by the well-loved music venue. The Dorothy Pax posted online: “It’s not very pleasant to be a statistic at any time, and we are certainly upset about being added to the number of grassroots music venues that have closed down over the last few years.”

The closure has drawn people’s attention the battles the grassroots music industry has been facing in recent years, with the closure of 13-year-old venue Hope Works coming only four months ago.

The Dorothy Pax spokesperson added: “Continue to support your grassroots music venues, your local pub and independent businesses because now is the time that they need you the most. Use them, or lose them.”

Tickets for the upcoming fundraiser are still available online, set at £6.
