Sheffield students have been recognised for filmmaking talent in prestigious national awards.
George Allen, Emma Whight, Jayne Palmer, Kaitlyn Taylor, Loui McCormac and Jess Dale won the award for Entertainment and Comedy Drama award for their film, Tandem P.I.
Tandem P.I. is a short comedy film that follows two private investigators as they solve the case of a stolen bike.
George, the director of Tandem P.I. was also awarded the Craft Award for Screenwriting; the craft awards recognise outstanding skills that the judges felt were deserving of special recognition.
George said: “To conclude the story of making Tandem with us winning an RTS award is something we only could’ve dreamed of. Being able to make the film together was enough of a prize as it was, and it’s an experience I’ll forever treasure – it’s great to have a physical trophy to enjoy as well though.”
Tandem P.I also has nothing but five star reviews on a movie tracking and reviewing website named Letterboxd with reviewers such as Nathan saying “George this is excellent. It took a small army to make it but I see the life you’ve breathed into each and every aspect of it. Even if you don’t want to take it, you deserve a huge amount of credit. You designed the very ship you’ve steered, and very expertly at that.”
George also previously directed another comedic short film called Key and Lock in 2023.
The other craft award winners from the Sheffield Hallam University were Richard Warren for cinematography with his short film Be Reyt , which was also shortlisted for Best Drama.
Be Reyt tells the story of a young woman who gets in over her head when she becomes involved with a gangster on a warpath.
Jacob Lerup McCarthy won an award for Screenwriting with his short film Into the Mouth of Gold which was also shortlisted for best drama, Into the Mouth of Gold is about a French Holocaust survivor who escapes a concentration camp during WWII and features some truly beautiful countryside shots.
George David Won a craft award in screenwriting.
Film and TV Production Course Leader at Sheffield Hallam University, Saskia Wilson, said: “We are all incredibly proud of the success of our Film and TV Production graduates at the RTS Yorkshire Student Awards. To bring back four awards was just fantastic, the films were beautifully crafted with amazing production values, compelling storytelling and powerful performances. We are over the moon about the news!
“These awards are a huge accomplishment for the Students at Sheffield Hallam University as they are nationally recognised as an indicator of the next up and coming talents in the Television Industry.”
