Three Sheffield-based artists will be given the chance to perform to a worldwide audience when livestream sensation, DJ AG, returns with his iconic live-streamed street set outside Sheffield Town Hall.
The British DJ and online broadcaster is returning to the Steel City with another public performance this Friday, 6th March from 6pm to 9pm that will be streamed to his thousands of followers across TikTok and Instagram.
Alongside his headline set, DJ AG is partnering up with WaterBear – The College of Music to open applications for three local acts, giving up-and-coming Sheffield DJs and musicians the chance to perform and get their talent out with the world. The chosen line-up is set to be revealed tomorrow, Wednesday 3rd March.
One collective hoping to build momentum in the city’s music scene is ‘Where’s That’, a student-run DJ collective founded by five first year students at the University of Sheffield who’s vision started out at parties has substantially grown as they continue to build their name.
One of the founders, Linus Burnage, 19, said: “The vision has changed a lot, we have a confirmed residency at TANK, one of Sheffield’s biggest clubs, and we are also playing at CONTAINED at Forge in May, a huge day party with some international DJs
“Having someone like DJ AG come is sick, as it puts Sheffield even more on the map for the music scene, and will become a city that bigger DJs want to continue to play at, which means more events for us to support”
DJ AG, real name Ashley Gordon, has built a career and large platform by performing street-side and platforming local artists and also attracting high-profile guests.
His last visit to Sheffield made headlines when he brought out global superstar Ed Sheeran for a surprise appearance in the city centre. Actor and rapper, Will Smith, has also been seen making an appearance in his gig at Kings Cross in London last year.
For Linus, the potential that this brings for all DJs can play a vital part in their success.
“Online exposure is so important, especially now, everyone is on social media and sends things to each other, especially with how linked up everyone is at University”
For Sheffield’s emerging DJs, Friday night could be more than just another gig, it could be another defining moment of their career and puts the city’s talent on the map.
