Hopes dialled up in Sheffield as The Leadmill fundraises for relocation

Sheffield’s longest-running late-night venue, The Leadmill, has set a fundraising target of £30,00 to help them find a new home following their 2025 eviction.

A staple of the Sheffield music scene since 1980, The Leadmill is famous for hosting some of the most iconic names in music, including Coldplay, Tame Impala, and the Arctic Monkeys.

On The Leadmill website, Mike Cross, promoter, said: “If The Leadmill has ever meant something to you, a first gig, a favourite night out, a moment you’ll never forget, we’d love you to be part of building its future.

“Whether you’re able to donate, share the campaign, or simply send support we really appreciate the help and will not forget it.”

Following an eviction dispute with its landlords, Electric Group, in 2022, The Leadmill hosted a sold-out “Final Friday Night Bash” in June 2025.

However, despite the popular venue being revitalised in Foundry’s Leadmill Fridays, Evelyn Paton, 19, said that some have felt the music is “hit or miss.”

Deborah Adio, 20, a student, said: “[The Leadmill] wasn’t for everyone, but it was definitely a staple night out.”

Ms Adio added that it would be good to have more venues across Sheffield hosting smaller bands and gigs.

Reactions to the potential re-opening have been largely positive on social media too, with many users expressing their support for the iconic live music venue.

Mia Jaskiewicz, 21, a student, said: “I think it was a very important place for students and many people’s favourite club.”

On Crowdfunder, a donator, David Ockwell, said: “Good luck with the relocation. Seen a number of great bands in the past. Look forward to the future.”

However, concerns have been raised about how the move to a new venue may affect The Leadmill’s reputation.

Wiktoria Dusik, 18, a student, questioned whether opening in a new location will change the atmosphere of the events.

Despite their eviction, The Leadmill has continued to promote independent artists at other well-known independent venues, hosting almost 150 events across the city. Regular locations include grassroots favourites: the Hallamshire Hotel, and Yellow Arch Studios.

The initiative has currently raised over £7,000, and has received nearly 400 supporters.
