Social media sensation DJ AG showcases new and old Sheffield talent to thousands online

Some of Sheffield’s most renowned talent was showcased by social media sensation DJ AG in a four-hour livestream from the city centre on Friday.

The event, held outside Sheffield Town Hall, saw hundreds of people stop to watch the DJ’s set while thousands more tuned in through his livestream on social media.

DJ AG was last in Sheffield city centre with Ed Sheeran in May and is known for taking his DJ booth to public spaces and inviting artists to perform spontaneously.

“Sheffield always shows love when we do things like this” DJ AG told the crowd during the set.

His street performances have become known for their unpredictable guest appearances and for drawing major crowds online, previous events have seen surprise cameos from artists including Ed Sheeran and JME, leading some fans to speculate whether another high-profile guest might appear.

He said: “It’s about bringing music straight to the streets and giving local artists a platform.”

Singer Steve Edwards also made an appearance, performing his well-known dance track World, Hold On, adding an extra verse during the performance.

Edwards said: “It’s amazing seeing people of all ages stopping and singing along,

He said after performing: “Moments like this remind you how powerful live music can be.

A collective dubbed the Sheffield All Stars featured performers such as Coco, K‑Dot, Aziza Jaye and Lavelle. Up-and-coming acts including Milly Pye, The Tivolis and Niamh & The High Fives Band also took to the improvised stage from around 4pm until 8pm.

Several Sheffield musicians joined the DJ throughout the evening, including indie band frontman Jon McClure from Reverend and the Makers, who performed in front of the lively crowd.

McClure said performing in the city centre created a unique atmosphere. “There’s something special about playing right in the middle of your hometown,

He said: “You’ve got people walking past, joining in, filming it — it feels really raw and real.

Other guests included members of Junglist Alliance, joined by reggae and jungle MC Top Cat, bringing a burst of drum-and-bass energy to the set.

For many attendees, the event was less about celebrity appearances and more about celebrating Sheffield’s diverse music culture in the heart of the city.

Local spectator Hannah Clarke, 23, said: “I was just walking through town and suddenly there was this huge crowd and music everywhere,”

She said: “It’s great to see local artists getting this kind of spotlight.

While Friday’s event focused mainly on Sheffield’s local scene, the atmosphere remained lively as passers-by stopped to watch, dance and film the performances.
