Online sensation DJ AG returned to Sheffield last Friday to give a live streamed performance in the City Centre.
DJ AG’s long awaited return to Sheffield was in partnership with WaterBear – The College of Music in Sheffield, giving an opportunity to showcase the variety of musical talents on offer in the city.
The performance marked the new scholarship opportunity available at WaterBear, which will give one young talent in Sheffield a fully funded three year Professional Music degree at the college, which aims to support the unseen grassroots talent in the city.
Ashley Gordon, known by his stage name DJ AG, aged 40, said: “It’s important to spread the love to all areas as there are fewer opportunities outside of London.”
Originally from North London, DJ AG has gained over 1.9 million followers on TikTok and uses his platform to provide exposure to new, up and coming talents from around the country to his large social media following.
Shugacoma, a Sheffield based funk and soul band who had their debut live gig on the live stream, said DJ AG’s return to Sheffield is “important to help the grassroots scene to stay alive” and gives performers “a chance to showcase character and skill”.
DJ AG last visited Sheffield in May 2025, where he livestreamed his set across TikTok and Instagram and was joined by various stars including musician Ed Sheeran and rapper JME.
Stando, a member of the urban performance community Slambarz who were also given the opportunity to perform with DJ AG, said: “It gives a different way to experience music and connect with audiences.”
The street performance took place outside of Sheffield Town Hall and was live-streamed for four hours from 4pm to 8pm.
Alongside the city’s new talents, DJ AG was joined at the decks by Sheffield’s Lord Mayor Safiya Saeed, Jon McClure from Reverend and the Makers and house singer Steve Edwards during his set.
DJ AG’s performance in Sheffield highlighted the great need to support new creative talents and how offering opportunities such as the scholarship at WaterBear will benefit the industry.
Applicants can apply for the scholarship from 1 April, 2026.
