The lead singer of Reverend and the makers has become the new chairman of Sheffield FC trading music for his ambition to tell the story that ‘Sheffield is the home of football’.
On the 9th of March Jon McClure along with performing arts firm IAV Holdings Limited bought a stake in the club with highly regarded music executive David Bianchi, Andrew Ford and Alexis Krachi making up the rest of the new board.
Speaking to Mr McClure after Sheffield FC’s first home game since the new ownership he said: “It’s a very unique club in that it’s the world’s first, and this club is essentially responsible for inventing football and I feel like that story is one that’s not been told by the city of Sheffield properly.
“I want to carry on telling the story that Sheffield is the home of football.”

Chris Woolhouse, 64, from Dore and a fan of Sheffield FC said in response to Jon McClure becoming the new chairman: “He is a very proud sheffileder and I am sure he is going to turn this club into a very big success.”
John Parkin, 79, from Dronefield and another fan at the game on Saturday said: “I have been watching Sheffield FC for over 60 years, I’m 79 now and this is definitely one of the busiest I have seen here. There is definitely an opportunity to grow.
“Hopefully they can take off.”
Sheffield FC currently play their home games in Dronfield, outside of their home city and have done since 2001.
One of the talking points since the announcement is whether new faces within the club will be able reignite the two decade long effort to return the club to Sheffield.
Mr Woolhouse said: “With this new ownership there must come an attempt to relocate out of North East Derbyshire and back into the city. I am a born and bred sheffielder, I am quite proud of having the oldest club in the world as my team, but we have got to bring Sheffield FC back to Sheffield.
Sheffield FC are unbeaten since the takeover following Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Thackley, moving them into fourth position and into the promotion places.
