Disability Accessibility App Maps Sheffield Centre

Sociability, a disability access app, is due to meet this Friday to compile the city centre

Community days aim to bring disabled people, their friends, carers, and family together, not only to promote the app, but also to bring often isolated people together to meet new friends whilst compiling vital information about the city.

Georgina Grogan, who is disabled herself, is now Community Growth Officer for Sociability, said, “Last year I went on the Sheffield and Leeds Sociability Community days, and I absolutely loved them. I came away feeling so happy and had the best days, so when an opportunity came up to join the team, I jumped at it.”

The App, a UK-based social enterprise started in 2019 to map out the owner Matt Pierre’s University campus, has grown into a country-wide source of accessibility information, mapping places to eat, drink and socialise without the need to contact individual businesses. Officers such as Georgina travel to various locations to perform “mapping days”, bringing the local disabled members together to give reviews and compile information on a variety of local establishments.

Friday, 8th May, will see Georgina take the lead on the Sheffield mapping event, starting at the Winter Gardens starting 1 pm.

Georgina said, “I’ll be on all the Community Days this year, including Sheffield this Friday, and I cannot wait! They’re such a great way to meet new people, make new friends, talk about all things disabled life with people who really get it and get to learn more about the Sociability app. I’m always using the app now as I’ve just moved into Rotherham and I love finding really accessible village pubs and adding them to the app so other people can find them too!
