‘Diddy’ dancers embrace their inner Bob Marley with day of reggae and dub music at Crookes Social Club

Crookes Social Club is embracing the spirit of ‘one love’ with a new reggae event for all the family.

The “Diddy Dub” event encourages parents and children to enjoy a mixture of reggae, dub and jungle music, provided by the Jahden of Tallulah Soundsystem, courtesy of hosts PA parties.

Event organisers Phillipa O’Connor and Erica Wheelhouse oversee a range of children’s activities including games, soft play, and face painting, and there is also a fully licensed bar where parents can enjoy drinks and snacks.

The lead organiser Phillipa O’Connor, said: “I’ve always had a passion for dub and reggae music, and loved attending events as well as working at the club Dryad Works, but when my daughter was born that became unsustainable.

“I still really wanted to be involved in the music because that is my passion, so I have tried to create something that parents and kids can experience, like dub and sound system culture.’’

Jordan Wilson, 30, is the DJ and said: ‘’I had never heard of dub music until I was 26, but now I love it, so I think it’s cool that I’m able to introduce it to a younger audience’’.

Jordan added: “I take out most of the heavy bass from my music to make sure it’s suitable for the kids, and I take out the lyrics from some songs because dub music can be a bit preachy!’’.

Parent Tom Rogers said: ‘’I’m here today with my son who is eight years old, my partner and two good friends of mine. There are so many good things about this event- the kids are entertained, and they can meet other kids while listening to the music. Us parents can have a chat and a nice drink as well’’.

The Diddy Dub will next be returning to the Crookes Social Club on the 16th of March for a pre-easter party.
