The Sheffield Cats Shelter has opened their third charity shop to help cover their half a million pounds a year running cost.
The grand opening took place at 12 noon on 22 February in Broomhill in front of a crowd of customers waiting outside.
Sarah Smith, Charity Manager, said: “We needed shop three to help balance out the books because it costs us about half a million a year to run. We obviously don’t take that in our current shops, so we needed a third shop to help get financial sustainability.”
Staff at the new charity shop were pleased by the generous donations brought in by locals who were willing to support the shelter.
Ms Smith added: “People make amazing contributions. Ever since we’ve been setting up shop for the last couple of weeks people have been knocking on the door every day bringing donations.”
The shop opened in the previous Save The Children premises and Ms Smith said that they worked closely with them to save the fixtures and fittings and be as sustainable as possible.
The opening ribbon was cut by Dancing on Ice star and patron of the charity, Frankie Seaman.
Inside the new shop there were cat themed cakes, a raffle, and their charity mascot, Travis, was outside to greet new customers.
The Sheffield Cats Shelter has been operating since 1897 and also has two other charity shops in Sheffield, one in Ecclesall Road and another in Hillsborough.
Sustainable fashion influencer and guest of the charity, Faye Wagstaffe, said: “I’m a huge, huge fan of the charity shop that they already have on Ecclesall Road.”
She added, “I think this one in Broomhill is just going to be an absolute gem in the Broomhill charity shop scene.”
