A dementia garden will undergo a rejuvenation process thanks to a £10,000 grant from Sheffield City Council. 

Heeley City Farm, which opened in 1981, will receive the largest sum from the South Local Area Committee, out of the £100,000 annual budget. 

The proposal aims for the garden to provide a tranquil and inclusive place for those experiencing dementia and their families and friends to come and visit.

Lee Pearse, Dementia manager for the farm, said that the money would have “a massive impact”. He added that the area of garden had “gone downhill” in recent years.

He said: “In regards to the garden, it will maintain its accessibility for people, no matter what dementia they have, in a way that’s safe and comfortable for all.”

As well as the dementia garden, the farm is also known for being a rare breeds centre as well as having a vegetarian/vegan café.

Heeley City Farm is a charity run farm, which relies on grants and donations from the public.
