Die-hard fans of Frank Herbert’s sci-fic epic Dune stayed up past midnight to be the first to watch the film at The Light Cinema in Sheffield city centre.
The venue held their midnight showing of Dune: Part Two on Thursday 29 February which ran until the early hours of March 1, the film’s release date.
Fans flocked to the cinema to be the first in line to view the new film, with fans coming together in unison to experience the film of the year.
Nineteen-year-old Cade McCarthy was one of the many Sheffield residents to attend this midnight screening of one of his favourite franchises.
“I’ve been looking forward to its release since it was postponed way back when” said Cade.
“I knew as soon as I saw that they were doing a midnight premiere here I had to go.”
Dune: Part Two is the second instalment of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune franchise, the first of which made over £400 million at the box office and had a re-release in the Light Cinema a few weeks ago.
Sheffield film fan Jace Morley, 22, also attended the midnight premiere.
“I think it’s special and important that cinemas still do things like this for the mega fans like me”, said Jace. “It creates a sense of community in Sheffield, it brings all of us sci-fi movie fans together.”
The Light Cinema, located on The Moor in the heart of Sheffield, is part of a cinema chain which was founded in 2007 and opened in 2015 by Keith Pullinger and John Sullivan.
The cinema has found great success over the years and has hosted many fan-centred events for the latest fan-favourite blockbusters in the past.
Thomas Hopkins, a frequent attendee of the Light cinema and Dune fan, said: “I always have such great experiences at the Light, the staff who run the place are passionate and nice to talk to.”
With the film set to make even more at the box-office than its first installment, fans can look forward to more Dune content from the Sheffield city centre cinema in the coming years.
