A shocked community has labelled yesterday’s stabbing of a teenage boy as “vile and horrible”.

The attack happened on Shirecliffe Road at 6.18am yesterday.

The road was closed off to traffic for part of yesterday along the connection of Musgrave Road and Longley Avenue West.

Jennie Chapman, 51, visiting her parents on Musgrave Road, said: ” There’s too much knife crime it’s got to be stopped, it’s vile, it’s horrible. This could happen to anyone but its their age group that’s the issue. Something’s got to be done.”

According to South Yorkshire Police the teenager was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening or life-altering injuries.

Steven Hall, 74, of Musgrave Road, said: “That’s the way Sheffield’s going. It will definitely happen again.”

South Yorkshire police say no charges have been brought but a 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of affray. He remains in police custody at this time.

A resident of Longley Avenue West, said: “I think that police should have more powers to just stop anybody randomly and there should be more CCTV. “People complain about the privacy but if you’re not doing anything wrong why would you complain?”

South Yorkshire Police say enquiries are ongoing.
