Dan Walker announces “dream” business venture in Sheffield

Sheffield treasure Dan Walker has joked he may don an apron to serve up cakes in Fulwood this summer, after investing in a local café.

Dan told us: “I might do something for charity over the summer where I serve at the tables for a few hours but the staff are amazing and they don’t need a tall idiot getting in the way.”

The cafe is on Brooklands Avenue opposite the co-op at the heart of Fulwood.

The Channel 5 and Classic FM presenter has said on X (formally twitter): “You know I go on about cake a lot? Well… I am officially the part-owner of a cafe!

It’s something my wife and I have been thinking about for a while and an opportunity came up first down the road from our house in Sheffield at a place we love, right at the heart of our community, and with friends who are brilliant. It is officially the DREAM.”

Dan said: “We have always been keen to support local businesses in Sheffield and the chance came up to work with friends who already owned the cafe and we jumped at the chance. I love cake, we both love cafes and The Brook is right at the heart of the Fulwood community and has a lovely atmosphere.”

The cafe uses local suppliers including Pipers Artisan Sausages of Crosspool, Little Town Pantry, Smith Street Coffee and 4Eyes Patisserie, in Rotherham.

Asking Dan how the opportunity came about, he said: “We knew the owners and they were looking for someone to come on board.

The business is doing really well so I’ll just be there if needed. People love the cafe and the food and atmosphere so we just have to keep going.”

The cafe features the artwork of Dore artist Wendy Carlton on the wall.

He added: “I am obsessed with the cronuts and all the cakes taste SO good. The BROOK signature sandwich is delicious and we do amazing eggs and the milkshakes are off the scale.”

Responding on X, Jim R said: “After your morning on Classic FM, you can serve cake to your customers for a couple of hours at lunchtime before preparing for 5 News later on. Your perfect working day is now complete.”

Libby Tilley said: “Loving our move to Sheffield even more!”
