Sheffield’s night-time economy scoops various awards in successful ceremony

An awards ceremony held in Sheffield saw seven city centre venues crowned in 11 different categories.

The ‘Best Bar None’ awards took place at Sheffield City Hall last Tuesday and was held to celebrate the achievements of well-run night time establishments.

Richard Pilgrim, Project Manager of Sheffield Business Improvement District (Sheffield BID) said: “We are very pleased with proceedings on the night, bringing together around 225 people from the project, project partners from right across the city centre’s early evening and night-time economy.”

Winners included Corporation, Forum Kitchen & Bar and The Frog & Parrot.

The event saw several winners in various categories voted by the public presented by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Colin Ross and other people involved in the scheme.

The People’s Choice prizes, voted for by the public, went to The Benjamin Huntsman for Best Pub and Tiger Works for the Best Bar/ Late Bar alongside the Genting Casino for Best Entertainment venue.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a four-year break since the last awards ceremony but in previous years the scheme has won the ‘best overall scheme in England and Wales’ in 2020.

Mr Pilgrim added that “the programme will be back for 2024/25’ with preparation for the relaunch towards the ‘end of March/ early April”.

Sheffield BID in partnership with Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Police lead on the Best Bar None scheme which operates within the premises of the city centre ring road.

“We are encouraging city centre venues that didn’t take part this year to express their interest in the 2024/25 scheme,” added Mr Pilgrim.
