Bradfield Brewery has spoken of its pride after the city was named as the official ‘real ale capital of the world’ for the third time.

The brewery is based on a working farm in the Peak District and has produced a wide range of award winning cask ales. A representative from Bradfield Brewery said: “Being a Sheffield Brewery, it does make us very proud to be a part of the City achieving this award.

“It is encouraging for us as a Brewery that we are part of a unique environment that has been able to retain this status.”

Sheffield has retained the title in recognition of the city’s brewing culture. The report which was originally commissioned by the University of Sheffield said: ‘the city is having a bit of a moment right now, punching massively above its weight, culturally.’

Sheffield is home to 58 breweries which produce more than 1800 ales every year and Bradfield Brewery is a core part of these numbers, brewing over 100,000 pints of beer a week.

“Seeing our beers on tap does create a sense of pride for us. We also like to consider that our products can help other businesses succeed.

By providing beers that are enjoyed by consumers and catering for the growing interest, it enables other businesses to strive and do well.”

Collaboration like this is just one way in which Sheffield has made its way to the top of the brewing industry. The large number of ales that the city boasts gives customers a great variety of beer to choose from as approximately 300 different real ales are on sale in Sheffield every day.

Bradfield Brewery itself brews a wide selection of ales and offers customers seasonal options throughout the year, from the ‘Poppy Ale’ brewed for Remembrance to ‘Belgian Blue, a unique beer with winter berry overtones.’

“Seasonal Ales do attract growth in sales, they help to create a talking point between not only our trade customers but public followers of the brewery too.”

“Seasonal ales assist in catering for the expanding culture of real ales and offering a variety of beer styles and flavours caters for customers wanting to adventure further into real ale offering.”

Given the current economic climate, it is crucial that the Sheffield brewing scene goes from strength to strength.

Another representative from Bradfield Brewery said: “We strongly believe that whilst the Brewing industry in Sheffield is not immune to the challenges being faced by businesses, largely due to recent high inflation costs.

“With the continued support of consumers and by retaining a confidence in the industry, it certainly has the potential to flourish in the city.

“We feel it is important for the Brewing industry to continue being innovative and to continue catering for the growing consumer audience.

“For further expansions and continued growth to be possible, support from the local authority is very much required.”
