A Sheffield park has been given a grant to ensure it can continue to be fit for the community to use.
Sheffield City Council has reinstated The Green Estate Community Interest Company’s yearly grant to manage and maintain Manor Fields Park.
The grant of £141,481 will cover the management and maintenance of Manor Fields and the SuD scheme running throughout the park and the playgrounds within that area.
Manor Fields Park off City Road features over five kilometres of paths that go through a naturalistic landscape and stunning views.
In a Sheffield City Council meeting last Monday, Ruth Bell, Head of Parks and Countryside, said: “The Green Estate has managed the park for over 15 years and has developed the parkland into a greenspace for the benefit of the local people.”
They also discussed the need to develop a “longer term arrangement” for Manor Fields instead of a yearly renewal.
Councillor Sioned-Mair Richards said: “It is fabulous and incredibly well managed.”
Since last year’s grant, Manor Fields Park achieved the Green Flag Award scheme 2023/24.
The scheme recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces whilst setting the standard for outdoor, recreational spaces within the United Kingdom and across the world.
The continuation of this grant allows The Green Estate to have the necessary security to continue their operations that they have previously succeeded in.
Zack Hughes, 18, a student at the University of Sheffield, said: “I am happy to see the park well looked after and I hope it remains like this moving forward with this renewed grant.”
