A stepdad has raised money after a faulty appliance left his step-daughters home engulfed in flames this weekend.
The family’s three children and dog were evacuated by their dad, Ben. Bethany, the mother, wasn’t at the house at the time of the fire.
When she received the news, she was completely shocked.
She said: “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, I’m still in shock now.”
At least two fire engines were called to the house at 2.20pm on EastCroft View, WestField, Sheffield.
Bethany and her partner, Ben, now have to face the challenge of cleaning up what the fire destroyed.
She said: “It’s now a case of knowing where to start.”
The kitchen and dining room took the brunt of the fire, while the rest of the house suffered from serious smoke damage.
Bethany was “in tears” when she found out her step-father, Peter Jones, set up a fundraiser on Gofundme to help his family pay for the damage costs the fire had caused.
So far, an incredible £715 has been raised of his target of £1,000.
Peter Jones said: “The kitchen is totally destroyed and things are really tight. People might think I’m being unrealistic by raising £1,000, but anything I can do to help to try and make them happy.”
The family have received help from The Red Cross, but have yet to hear back from Sheffield City Council for further support.
Peter said that while the family were keen to repair their home. The potential devastation of the fire could have been much worse.
He said “What if it had been at night? They could have died. Everything else can be replaced but you can’t replace the kids.”
Bethany and her family are currently staying at a relative’s house whilst they attempt to rebuild their home.
On the Gofundme page used to raise money, Peter said: “Bethany is such a hardworking and special mum.
“Your donation, no matter how small, will go a long way to help supporting them during this challenging time.”
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue released a statement that said: “On arrival one adult and three children, along with a dog, had already vacated the property.
“All were attended to on scene by our partner agencies and did not require any further hospital treatment.”
