A notorious ‘rave’ won the support of the community this weekend after previous events culminated in Endcliffe Park being trashed by attendees.
Crowds of young people gathered on Saturday to listen to loud house music and enjoy the sunny weather.
In 2021, a similar event caused outrage amongst residents, leading to noise complaints and police intervention after the Second World War memorial was vandalised and extreme amounts of rubbish were left behind which had to be cleaned up by volunteers.
But this year South Yorkshire Police were present at the event and kept watch from their vehicle parked outside the gate.
Ava Wright, 19, was walking through the park during the event and said: “Although the music was really loud, lots of people were enjoying it.”
She added: “I saw some families sitting on the grass nearby and they seemed quite happy to be there. I don’t think anyone was out of order at all.”
There were reports of three sound systems set up in the corner near the car park off Rustlings Road.
Organisers agreed to start turning the music off at 6pm in a staggered order, with the last speaker shutting off by 8pm.
Despite past complaints, support has been widely expressed for Saturday’s event and many people have left positive comments online.
Rebecca Martin wrote on Facebook: “People need to get a grip on life and leave people to enjoy themselves! Hope everyone had a great time.”
Others left praise for the party-goers who did not act disorderly, like in previous years.
Sam Brown also wrote on Facebook: “Lovely bunch. Extremely respectful. Saw them having a good chat to the police about finishing times. Did no harm to anyone.”
This weekend’s event took place on the 20th April which is sometimes referred to as ‘4/20’, and is infamous for the celebration of cannabis.
