University student Annya Freeman has orchestrated Sheffield’s first Charity Battle of the Bands, merging her passion for music with a desire to give back to the community.
The event will take place at the Sidney & Matilda venue on the 5th of May. It aims to raise funds for local charities: Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Cavendish Cancer Care, and Weston Park Cancer Charity.
Annya Freeman, the visionary behind the event, shared her inspiration for the unique fundraising project: “During my final year at university, the chance to work on this unique fundraising project with these charities was incredibly exciting. My lifelong passion for music immediately made a Battle of the Bands the ideal event concept.”
Her brother’s successful career as a musician further fueled her passion and played a big role in her decision to pursue event management, as well as growing up in Liverpool, which showed her a vibrant music scene.
She added: “A Battle of the Bands felt like a perfect fit for this project. It allows me to seamlessly combine my love of music with the opportunity to raise awareness and critical financial support for these important causes.”
The aim of the event is to ‘give back to the community’ while also creating a ‘fun and electrifying’ experience for the Sheffield community to attend.
Annya admitted that this was her first time organizing an event: “While the process has presented its share of challenges, it has also proven to be both stimulating and fulfilling.”
She added: “The inevitable moments of stress and apprehension, such as a band dropping out due to unforeseen circumstances, have ultimately been overshadowed by the sense of accomplishment of my vision taking shape.”
Selecting the bands for the event proved to be a particularly ‘challenging’ aspect of the planning process.
The bands attending include Adam’s Sister, Cabrons, x2 Fast, Settlements, and Zibel.
Following the event, Annya plans to provide the chosen charities with an event plan, leaving the possibility for the event to be recreated in the future.
