Parking charges to increase by 10p per hour to £1 at popular Sheffield parks

Parking fees will rise by 10p per hour at Endcliffe Park, Graves Park and Hillsborough park in coming days, it has been confirmed.

The decision was made at a meeting of the city council’s Charity Trustee Sub-Committee on 12th April 2024 and will come into effect on 29th April 2024.

This will bring parking charges at these sites into line with other city car parks.

Jo Pearce, Service Manager, Business and Partnerships said: “The proposal was to increase the charges from 90p to £1.

“The charges were to do this from around the 29th April, given the sufficient notice period.

“There’s no proposal to change the hours of operation.”

The decision was made in order to help better manage parking demand, while contributing to wider traffic management and environmental objectives, council officers said.

The Waste and Street Scene Policy Committee have been able to approve the parking fees in non-charitable parks sites by 10p per hour, this would lead to price differences for parking within Sheffield parks.

An alternative suggestion to keep the current rate at these car parks – which are charitable car parks – was rejected. This would have seen it having different prices for parking to other city parks.

Increasing the parking charges on charitable park sites in line with non charitable sites will in turn provide a higher level of income to those charitable parks, council officers argued.

This income provides some income certainty for the Endcliffe Park Charity, the Graves Park Charity and the Hillsborough Park Charity and considers the best interests of each of the parks.

Isabella Wright, 19, a student at the University of Sheffield said: “As a student it’s quite annoying that the parking charge has risen, it’s kind of hindered me from parking at these places, especially Endcliffe Park.

“On a day to day basis, I normally walk to my lectures anyways so it doesn’t really affect me too badly because I have way around it, thankfully.”

The parking fees for pay-and-display in the City Centre car parks are £1.45 per hour in Zone 1 areas from Monday to Sunday -4:30pm to 8:30pm.

On Sundays the parking fees are £1 per hour in Zone 2 areas from 4:30pm to 8:30pm.
