A South Yorkshire youth homeless charity has raised over £11,000 with its annual Sleepover fundraiser.
For the first time ever the Roundabout youth charity joined up with the Sheffield Wednesday Community Project to host the fundraiser at Hillsborough Stadium.
Those who took part were joined by Jon McClure, the frontman from Reverend & The Makers, who traded donations for song suggestions.
Emily Bush, fundraising manager for Roundabout, said: “Thanks to everybody who swapped their beds for sleeping bags helping to raise a fantastic amount to help fund our vital work, and a special thank you too to Jon McClure for his participation!”
The event asks those who have comfy beds and houses to sleep in at night to come and camp out on the floors of the Hillsborough stadium, to get a slight understanding of what it is like for the young homeless people that Roundabout help, as well as complete a night full of fun activities.
Ms Bush said: “The Roundabout Sleep Out has always been one of our most popular annual events and we have been asked so many times if there was a version the whole family could support.”
The mascot for the event, Barney Owl, attended the event to entertain the younger attendees.
Roundabout Peer Educators, Charlotte and Lydia, also attended the event to share their personal experiences with Roundabout to ensure the night was not just entertaining but also educational.
The charity will use the money raised to aid them in their mission of ending youth homelessness in South Yorkshire.
The £11,000 will go towards projects such as their drop-ins where young people come to seek help, creating a safe space for those who need it, and rapid rehousing as well as so much more.
