Sheffield University’s netball team played Hallam in the final stretch of the city’s Varsity tournament and secured wins across all seven teams.

Sheffield Varsity is a tournament in which the city’s university sports teams play each other over the course of a three-week period.

The netball Varsity began on Monday with Sheffield University Netball Club (SUNC) 8s taking on the University of Sheffield’s medics team followed by SUNC 7s and 6s taking on the Hallam equivalents.

Maisie Tinwell, one of the development coaches and on SUNC 4s said: “We’ve had a whitewash today which is great!”

Matches took place at both the Canon Medical Arena and the English Institute of Sport.

Preparation had been going on for weeks prior to ensure that Uni Of sustained all eight wins for an additional year.

Larissa Kirby, a midcourt player on the SUNC 6s team said: “Today was an amazing event, the energy was wild on court, and it was so exciting that everybody won.

“The energy was super high, and we just had such a great day.

“It was obviously quite nerve racking to have that many people watching you but once you got into it and everyone started chanting along it was such a welcoming community and it really felt like everyone was there to support you.”

Sheffield Netball Varsity concluded on Wednesday with the 5s, 4s, 3s, 2s and the 1s.

The Sheffield University First team were streamed by Forge TV and the Canon Medical arena was prepped with a light show and a performance by the Sheffield Sabre Cats.

Jaz Steele, presenting for Forge TV during the First team match and a member of SUNC 7s said: “We have been through some emotions here let me tell you that.

“Obviously all the girls played absolutely amazing, that does mean there’s 8 out of 8 wins for Uni of but Hallam played absolutely brilliantly as well.”
