Promotion success for West Yorkshire Futsal Club

West Yorkshire Futsal Club have been promoted to the second highest competitive futsal league in England, which is “something we never even thought of achieving at the start of the season” according to the club’s owner.

The club gained promotion to the National Futsal Series Tier 2 North on Sunday 28th April after beating Stafford Futsal Club 4-3.

Connah Joyce, the club’s owner, said: “The sheer effort of the coaching staff and players have managed to get the group into a position to compete against the best in area.”

Futsal is a smaller side game of football with adapted rules such as a heavier ball and kick-ins taking place instead of throw-ins during a 40 minute game.

Alex Roberts, one of the team’s fixs, or in traditional football terms, a centre half, said: “Who wouldn’t be happy with a promotion?. We’ve worked hard as a team, Coaches and players. It’s deserved for every single player and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

The club were competing in their first season in the National Futsal League Tier 3.1 North Division where they won five games and lost one.

Mr Roberts also said: “it was just a day that we will all remember and it was amazing to have had so many supporters watching the final game.”

Adam Oldham, West Yorkshire Futsal Club Coach said: “Being the first season and having a senior team at this level, the club has achieved something incredible!”

West Yorkshire have already played some big names in futsal this season after beating the University of Nottingham 4-3, who have a track record of success on the University futsal scene.

Further challenges will also await the club with Bolton Futsal B and Liverpool Futsal Club, who have both been in contention for this season’s National Futsal Series Tier 2 North title.

The club also has a youth academy for players between the age brackets of under 6’s to under 16’s, providing a pathway for players to develop and potentially move into their competitive First Team.
