Sheffield University’s Dance Society held its bi-annual dance show and raised money for Sheffield charity The Snowdrop Project.
The show was held on Sunday in The Foundry and showcased all of the different dance styles and classes in the society.
The theme was ‘Fantasies & Fairytales’ with advanced tap performing a Princess and the Frog themed dance whilst advanced modern performed a Shrek mashup.
The money raised from the show went towards a local charity called The Snowdrop Project.
The Snowdrop Project is a Sheffield based charity that supports victims of modern slavery and human trafficking to rebuild their lives through counselling, community activities and much more.
The Dance Society has been an active fundraising and volunteering partner for the charity.
Every Wednesday, a dancer volunteers to teach a dance class to members of the charity as part of a community activity.
The bi-annual showcases also act as fundraisers for the project and £2 of every ticket was donated alongside proceeds from the tombola and refreshments.
So far this year, the society has raised £1,489 through fundraising.
Lucy Potter, 20, Charity Secretary, said: “I find it very rewarding to know I’m making a difference no matter how small. I have personally visited the Snowdrop Project and seen the amazing work they do which makes me even prouder every time I raise money for them.”
The event also showed all of the things that have happened in dance society throughout the past year.
They competed in dance competitions at York, Loughborough and hosted their own competition at the university. One of those dances, which competed in the wildcard category and came 3rd at York, was also performed.
Choreographer Sarah Clemm, 22, said: “Performing our dance in the showcase was a great chance for the team to perform a dance we love in a low pressure, supportive environment.”
“It was also a great way to bond more as a team and say a proper goodbye to each other as we reach the end of the year.”
The showcase marked the last activity as a society before the ball on 8th May.
