A fundraising appeal has been started to revive the Meersbrook Park Bowling Club, improve facilities, offer coaching sessions and to purchase new equipment.
The club has produced a number of national champions as well as hosting competitions for the sport.
In the crowdfunder campaign a spokesperson for the Meersbrook Park Bowling Club said: “Bowling in the beautiful surroundings of the club is unquestionably a contributor to well-being.”
Following Covid 19 and decreased income previously gained from competitions saw the club’s membership decline over the years.
They expanded their membership by over 600% after securing funding from sports england and yorkshire sport however funding is still needed to fully revive the establishment.
A club member in their campaign video said: “ I like the ideas and I love the local space, the club is very sociable with friendly people.”
The money raised will be directly spent on reopening their second green space for the community use, get new inclusive equipment for those of different abilities and ages, provide coaching sessions and to improve accessibility.
The club aims to create an inclusive community hub that will boost the wellbeing of both members and club-goers.
