A two-day local art event took place in Walkley this weekend as 40 Sheffield artists exhibited their work at St. Mary’s Church.
Walkley festival put on the event Art in the Aisles, as a fringe event leading up to their main festival towards the end of June.
Kerry Dickinson, co-organiser of the event said : ‘’ It’s a great event for Walkley as we want to highlight the creativity and talent that we have got locally and bring our community together.
‘’We want to bring a wider audience into Walkley because it has quite a thriving artistic and creative community that deserve to be seen’’
Anne Lynch, the organiser of the weekend, said she wanted local makers and creators to get recognised and raise their profile.
She also said : ‘’We have a lot of artists in Walkey, and a lot that open up their studious but the way that the houses are built in Walkley not everyone has the open space or the room to exhibit their artwork, so we wanted to give them that space here at Art in The Aisles’’.
They had more interest from artists than space to accommodate them, so Walkley creators were prioritised as the event attracted far more attention than anticipated.
The Walkley festival is a ten-day long event set to take place this summer starting with the South Road Launch day on June 29 to the Festival Finale in Ruskin Park on the July 6.
