Sheffield Pub to reopen after Covid Closure

A beloved pub in Ecclesfield is set to reopen after its closure in May 2020 due to Covid – after an investment from Heineken.

The Black Bull was a staple to the area, with a great atmosphere, fantastic real ales, and an open fire.

Heineken has invested £39 million to revive 62 different UK pubs that have closed their doors.

And more than £1.64 million is to be invested in Yorkshire and the Humber pubs which will create 37 jobs in the region.

A quarter (612) of HEINEKEN UK’s 2,400 pubs are in line for improvement nationally, with 94 of these set for makeovers costing on average £200,000.

The revamps are designed to broaden each pub’s use and appeal, giving people additional reasons to visit.

Lawson Mountstevens, Star Pubs’ Managing Director, said: “People are looking for maximum value from visits to their local. They want great surroundings and food and drink as well as activities that give them an extra reason to go out, such as sports screenings and entertainment.

“The new designs will have a stylish classic feel, providing longevity. Reflecting customers’ increased expectations, the projects will be carried out to a high standard and will impact every part of the pubs, from the toilets to the gardens.

“As well as this, the refurbishments will include overhauling cellars with state-of-the-art dispense equipment to ensure consistently perfect pints and repositioning tills to speed up service.”

He said: “Pubs have proved their enduring appeal; after all the disruption of recent years, Star is on track to have the lowest number of long-term closed pubs since 2019.”

The surrounding community had commented that the pub had been improving vastly in quality after new management had taken over which made the news of their closing that much sadder to the pub’s regulars.

One reviewer said: “New manager moved in and what an improvement. Place is clean and fresh, beers OK, and sociability is back on the menu. Support your local pub.”
