The Bridge Inn has steadily begun to dominate the live music scene in Rotherham and now the freehold is up for sale.
Most weeks on Friday and Saturday (and the occasional Sunday) the venue hosts bands and performers from multiple styles of alternative rock/metal between 2 rooms through The Hive.
Laurie, 39, Co-director of The Hive said: “Last year alone we put nearly 500 bands through the pub, we see it more of a community than a scene. The current narrative is wrong, it’s not about making it, it’s about constructing and germinating a place for these bands to play and grow.”
The venue has been so successful that for the first time this year Doomlines, an annual heavy metal music event that normally takes place in Sheffield is moving to The Hive and tickets have already sold out.
Laurie continued: “We take pride that there are no cover bands booked. We specifically cater to grassroots, underground and DIY bands and do not put a cover charge in place, everyone is entitled to a free gig. We even offer accommodation for bands traveling from afar. ”
Upon asking what they would want from the new freeholder they said that they would love to continue in this venue as now promoters come to them asking for dates to fill with their artists.
This past weekend on Saturday and Sunday Moon and Star Promotions held a Bank Holiday takeover.
The Freehold is being sold through Fleurets at the price of £295,000+VAT with them describing it as ‘a very individual and unashamed live rock music operation and has been developed to cater exclusively for this market. Not for the faint-hearted the fit out includes ghoul masks, coffins as tables, zombies, skeletons, armour, devils and much more besides. Unique and wonderful.’
The Bridge Inn located on the River Don in Rotherham centre inbetween Rotherham Interchange and Rotherham Central was rebuilt in 1929 on the site of a 17th Century Pub & Inn.
Situated directly across from the “Forge Island” development opposite, which will include Travelodge, ARC Cinema and various food and coffee operations.
