All three Grand Slam trophies won by the Sheffield steelers will be displayed at the city’s Town Hall for the public to view until Tuesday 7 May.
This comes after a successful season for the steelers where they won the play off final, regular season title and the Challenge Cup.
Captain of the Sheffield Steelers, Robert Dowd, said: “This team has been through a lot of highs and lows this year and to come through all of that together with this unit and lift all three trophies is a very special feeling.”
The mayor and mayoress of the city invited the steelers and their loved ones to a civic reception where they had drinks and celebrated their very successful season together.
Sheffield Steelers fan, David Stokes, 34, said: “It has been great watching them bring this success to the city because Sheffield football this year hasn’t brought me this happiness. I hope it carries on and we re-sign all the players.”
Only three teams have won a treble in the Elite Ice Hockey League era prior to the Sheffield Steelers. They have now joined the likes of Coventry, Nottingham and Belfast for their place in the history books.
Head Coach, Aaron Fox, said: “This is a long time coming. We’ve fallen short the last couple years so for us to find a way to get all three with this group is pretty special.
“Everybody was in it together and played for each other. Every big moment we played our best and the guys dug deep.”
For Sheffield Steeler fans this success was a long wait after winning their first Elite League title in eight years.
Sheffield Steelers fan, Emma Wooley, said: “We have waited so long for this but it is so worth it. I am really happy Sheffield council are recognising the team’s achievements.
“Tony Smith has brought a new life into this club and I am excited to follow this team again into the next season. Hopefully they can replicate this success next season.”
This season has still had its difficult and darker moments. When tragically in October, Nottingham Panthers player, Adam Johnson, died in the Steelers’ ice rink during a game.
