Ice hockey player set to take part in 11th Allstars charity tournament

An ice hockey player is set to take part in his 11th tournament to raise money for charity.

Pete Frith, 58, will be getting involved in the Allstars Charity Ice Hockey Tournament later this year which will raise funds for Help 4 Heroes.

For the past 16 years running, a group of ice hockey fans have organised this weekend-long tournament to raise money for various charities such as Mind, Breast Cancer Now, The British Heart Foundation and Help 4 Heroes.

Mr Frith plays ice hockey for charity because he said “it’s a chance to do something I enjoy doing and help some great causes”.

When asked why he is raising money for Help 4 Heroes, he said: “I have never served, but I have friends who have served and this is my way of giving something back to those that have given so much in their service.”

Help 4 Heroes is a charity that specialises in helping to support veterans and their families by giving life-changing support. They aim to lift veterans out of social isolation and help them feel part of a community. They also help veterans to gain access to counselling, to support their mental wellbeing.

Mr Frith has been supporting Help 4 Heroes for the past three years, but has also helped other charities in the past such as St Luke’s Hospice, Autism Plus, Wales Air Ambulance and Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Mr Frith said he supported the children’s hospital because just before his son’s 2nd birthday, his eldest son pulled a deep fat fryer onto himself and spent weeks in hospital as a result under the care of Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

He said: “The times I played for Sheffield Children’s Hospital were a thank you to their staff.”

Mr Frith added: “My target for Allstars this year is to raise at least £600.”

Over 170 players of all abilities will be playing for various charities with the dual aim of taking home the coveted UKFAS trophy, but more importantly, raising the maximum possible amounts for the charities.

The tournament will take place on August 3 and 4 at IceSheffield.
