A former Great Britain Triathlete has raised almost 200 pounds for St Luke’s hospice in Sheffield, as he sets to complete the Sheffield half marathon with his daughter this March.
Stuart Curtis, who was formerly an athlete for Great Britain, and his daughter Lucy who is studying law at the University of Sheffield will be competing in the Sheffield Half Marathon on the 23rd of March,
The pair have raised £195 for Sheffield’s St Luke’s Hospice.
The hospice looks after people over 18 from across the Sheffield region, with all kinds of terminal illnesses, including end stage neurological, heart, kidney and lung conditions, cancer and HIV.
It helped around 1800 patients last year.
Lucy, 18, from Bath said: “Who St Luke’s support means a great deal to me as I lost my Nana recently to Alzheimer’s and my Grandad is currently living with Parkinson’s.”
Stuart and Lucy are just five pounds away from reaching their target of raising £200.
The half marathon starts and finishes in the city centre but takes runners all the way out to the boundary of the Peak District National park.
Lucy, who is competing in her first half marathon, said: “I’m aiming for sub two hours but if I don’t manage that I will be happy to finish my first one either way.
“The hills in Sheffield will keep me from sub two hours because in Bath it is relatively flat so I am not used to it.
“My new year’s resolution was to compete in some sort of sporting event so I thought I would give it a go.”
The half marathon route has more than 1,000 feet in both ascent and descent.
