The Cross Scythe, one of the most historic pubs Sheffield has to offer, is set to reopen after a refurbishment stretching from January 2025, to tomorrow, March 7th.
The pub and B&B has been up and running since 1818, making it one of the oldest in Sheffield. Originally opened by scythe maker and farmer Samuel Hopkinson, this is a long beloved pub with locals happy to see it reopen.
Neighbours of the Cross Scythe have offered encouragement online, and said: “Hope all goes well from one of your next door neighbours on Hillfoot Court.”
New northern based bar and restaurant company, Northern Collective, have taken over to give the local pub a new lease of life.
Also being the proud owners of other establishments in Sheffield and the Peak District areas, namely The Castleton Coffee Co who will locally supply the Cross Scythe’s coffee. Northern Collective feel this is only the next step in their slow expansion across South Yorkshire.
The new mother-daughter duo owners, Rebecca and Molle Aitken, have been offered a wealth of support on social media, with many Facebook comments from locals expressing confidence in their ability to live up to expectations.
Another commenter on Facebook said: “Rebecca Aitken’s wealth of experience in hospitality speaks for itself.”
Among the refurbished interior and exterior design, a revamped menu is also reported to offer a touch of ‘elevated pub dining’, served with locally brewed beers and coffee.
