Man taken to hospital after collision on ‘dangerous’ intersection

A man was taken to hospital after being hit by a car at a ‘horrific’ city centre interchange on Friday.

Police and ambulance services were called to Glossop Road just after 7.30pm on Friday 28 February.

The road was closed for about an hour and a half while they attended to the victim.

A resident on Glossop Road and university student said: “The hospital is next door so there’s constantly ambulances going by, we didn’t think anything of it.

“We heard sirens go off so we looked out the window and I came down to see if anyone needed any help, I’ve got no idea what’s going on” she added.

“I’ve lived here since September, this crossing is horrific.”

The man was laid on the road for around half an hour.

Ken Jarvis, the landlord of the Doctors Order pub, spoke to Shef Live immediately after the incident.

He said: “I didn’t see it happen, I was working but I had a look at the crash.

“He’s been laying down a while, a good fifteen minutes, no change”

The man was then moved to an ambulance to be further treated.

The accident caused traffic as a result of the road being closed off. Police were redirecting cars while the incident was being treated.

Buses around the area were forced to stop and passengers had to get off because they couldn’t go any further.

A police officer handling the traffic said: “It’s a police incident and officers are still at the scene.”

Carl Ale, the security guard at the co-op on the intersection said he’s been the security guard for five years and accidents like this don’t happen very often but it’s a ‘dangerous intersection’.

The man was taken away in an ambulance and police cleared the road.

South Yorkshire police has been approached for comment.
