A new piece of artwork by local street artist Phlegm has appeared on Eldon Street this week, one of the first pieces by the artist following the release of their art book in January.
Known for their unique black and white style and focus on fantasy creatures, Phlegm is an easily recognisable local celebrity, with pieces spread across the city.
Wendy Smith, 66, photography hobbyist said: “I’ve only recently started following the street art in Sheffield. there’s so much of it and its so good!”
“It’s hard to describe, I do drawing in pen and ink so I can appreciate the work that goes into it. It has so much detail, but it’s so different.”

The artist has also published a number of art books containing detailed prints of their artwork, the most recent of which, titled “A Cycle of Violence”, was released on the 29th January this year.
Wendy said: “I’ve got his latest book and I’ve just started to collect his stuff. It’s all quite new and exciting!”
Seen across the city centre, Sheffield street art is iconic for being eclectic and vibrant, often spanning up sides of buildings and across brick walls.
David Thorne, 43, said: “I’m so happy phlegm is back because I’m fed up with all the primary colour graffiti art”
“I don’t think random names being painted on the sides of houses is art, but the work these artists are doing in the city is beautiful.”
Phlegm’s work halted earlier this year, worrying some members of the artistic community, but it is now presumed to be a scheduled break coinciding with the release of his most recent art book, “A Cycle of Violence”.
Although sometimes a controversial topic within local communities, Sheffield street art is predominantly embraced as a prominent feature of the city’s culture.
“I follow the street art in Sheffield and they’ve got a fantastic map of where everything is and that’s what I’ve been doing, just picking off little areas because there’s just so many!”
This piece is the most recent artwork from Phlegm, with a promise for more in the future.
