Sheffield is set to commemorate the second annual Day of Reflection for those who lost their lives during the pandemic, on Sunday 9 March.

The event will provide the community with an opportunity to remember their loved ones and honour the effort and kindness shown by so many during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local figures will speak at the event, including Sheffield’s Council Leader Tom Hunt, who will lead a minute’s silence, and a message from someone with long Covid.

From ten in the morning until two in the afternoon, a creative workshop will offer a space for people to offer respects and tributes to those who lost their lives, of which members of the public are encouraged to attend.

This will include the decoration of wooden leaves to add to the permanent willow tree memorial, which stands in Balm Green Gardens.

Councillor Tom Hunt, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “This is the second year that we will come together to remember everyone who we have lost since the pandemic began five years ago.

“We will reflect on the impact of the pandemic on all of us, and we will remember and honour the commitment, kindness and dedication of those who saved lives and looked after people during this incredibly difficult period.”

At 2.30 pm, the documentary, ‘Stories from the Pandemic’, will be screened at The Showroom Cinema, featuring stories directly from the citizens of Sheffield.

A led, reflective discussion in the Showroom’s café and bar will be offered after the screening.
