On Monday, You Me At Six performed their last show in Sheffield at the Octagon Centre, where they were joined by Oli Sykes for a final performance of Bite My Tongue.
The five-piece, hailing from Weybridge, Surrey, have recently embarked on their last tour, The Final Nights of Six. The tour had one Sheffield stop, a performance in the Octagon Centre, accompanied by supporting bands Daytime TV and Mallory Knox.
The band have performed in Sheffield 11 times since they formed in 2005, the first being a show at The Leadmill in October 2007.
During a heartfelt speech on stage, You Me At Six frontman Josh Franceschi talked about their formative years as a band, in which they spent hours travelling to Sheffield on the Megabus.
“Sheffield has always had a special place in our hearts due to the people that reside there,” Franceschi later said in a post on Instagram.
The encore saw You Me At Six perform three of their greatest hits, including Bite My Tongue, an anthemic fusion of pop-punk and metalcore, from their 2011 gold-certified record, Sinners Never Sleep.
The song features guest vocals from Oli Sykes, lead singer of Sheffield’s own Bring Me The Horizon. The two last performed the song live together in London for Bring Me The Horizon’s 2021 tour.
Sykes’ live appearance was not announced prior to the show, and the venue erupted into screams as the duo, known to fans as ‘Fransykes’, embraced on stage after completing the bridge portion of the song together.
Long time fan of both bands, Cleo Reekie, said: “It was genuinely exhilarating. To be part of the crowd witnessing it live for the final time felt like such an honour.”
During the show, Franceschi had also donned a custom Drop Dead Clothing jacket, a brand founded by Sykes. The back of the jacket sported the words ‘Down But Not Out’, a reference to the lyric in You Me At Six’s 2010 single Underdog.
Thanking the company, the singer said: “You lot are different gravy.”
The Final Nights of Six will conclude on April 4th at Wembley Arena, London.
