Bagels Inc in Sharrow has begun a weekly Sunday Run Club with the aim of bringing together the community which it serves.

The shop first opened its doors on Hickmott Road in November 2023 and has seen huge success since then.

Annabel Davies, 31, the owner of Bagels Inc initially came up with the idea for the store after her placement year while studying at Northumbria University.

She studied abroad in New Jersey, for a year and a half, during which time she noticed how popular bagels were.

As a means to form a closer connection with the surrounding community, Ms Davies decided to explore the idea of a Sunday Run Club.

She said: “There’s quite a trend of running clubs and getting out and active, and with it coming up to summer I thought it would be really nice to build a little bit of a community up around the shop.

“It’s a nice hub for people to come on a Sunday morning, it’s good for networking and of course if it drives sales into the shop that will be a bonus, but the main focus is that of the community.”

So far the runs have had good engagement with turnouts of 8 to 15 people, with many more people showing interest in taking part on social media.

Ms Davies is originally from Sheffield. Despite a brief move to London she returned to the city when Covid-19 hit.

During this time she began to consider starting her own business and brainstorming ideas.

Ms Davies said: “I always wanted my own business but I never really knew what area of business I wanted to be in. I love food and drink so – when brainstorming business ideas – it kind of just clicked.”

Having now been open for 15 months, the store has established its presence in the Sharrow area and is particularly popular amongst people spending a day out in Endcliffe Park or exploring Ecclesall Road and Sharrow Vale.

Ms Davies and the store currently have no further plans beyond bagels and running as of right now but hope to open up another branch elsewhere in Sheffield in the future.
