Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (SHAFF) is making its annual comeback bringing creativity and community to the heart of the city.
It will be held on between March 21 and 23 at the Showroom Cinema, where people can gather to support small filmmakers.
Around 100 films make the cut each year, the festival founder watches and chooses which ones and it is seen as a “labour of love” to the entrants.
Organiser Matthew Heason said: “It’s brilliant to have a focal point for people to come together with a common interest. The showroom is a cracking venue, you can expect a full cinematic experience.”
Mr Heason has been running the event for around 20 years and it has gained a well-earned reputation, welcoming everyone whether you like the outdoors or just someone who loves a good story.
Mr Heason said: “It attracts thousands of people each year, it has grown into a fully-fledged international film festival.”
As well as indulging in a good film you can also take part in VR technology or take inspiration from the creative panel which will be free to attend. Mr Heason wants to give everyone the opportunity for their work to be seen.
He wants to focus on young and upcoming directors, producers and even increase the number of women who work on and off the camera.
Mr Heason has always loved adventure, which was his inspiration for setting up this event, every year he has been able to grow closer to the community. He moved to Sheffield in 1996 and started hosting independent film nights and lectures for climbers.

He said: “The social elements of SHAFF is key, Sheffield is the outdoor city and it’s the festival of the outdoors, this is an opportunity for locals to socialise and feel the spirit of adventure.”
You can expect other events in the year like the ‘Spirit Of Adventure’ at Sheffield Cathedral in November.
There will be even more film gatherings which will be held at Regather Cooperative on Club Garden Road.
Tickets are live for this year’s SHAFF and if you would like your work to be displayed next year of if you want to volunteer you can get in contact by emailing info@shaff.co.uk.
