Running from 21 to 23 March, Sheffield Adventure Film Festival returns for another adrenaline filled weekend.

It runs as part of the annual Festival of the Outdoors that takes place in March, which is arguably the biggest month in the calendar for the ‘Outdoor City’.

Founder of the festival Matthew Heason expressed how Sheffield is “unique with its access to the Peak District and its outdoor community”.

The festival celebrates film, the outdoors, and adventure. Making it perfect for those who love nature and exploration.

Matt’s goal when first founding the festival was “entertainment with a very significant emphasis on inspiration”.

Since 2006, when the festival was founded, it has gained a reputation as being one of the UK’s leading film festivals.

The festival has something for everyone, across the weekend activities will range from; talks, films and VR sessions to immerse yourself in the outdoors.

Matt said: “I want people to leave the cinema having had a really good time but also being inspired to do something different or a call to action.”

The festival isn’t just great for those attending, the festival holds great opportunities for those creating art.

Matt said the festival is an “important platform” for filmmakers within Sheffield wanting to share their work.

The festival is showcasing a range of films celebrating exploration, including: local stories under the ‘Made in Sheffield’ category, climbing and snow films.

Matt said the festival was significant for those creating adventure films.

“Quite a number of filmmakers have come out of Sheffield Hallam University and have cut their teeth by having their film shown at the festival, it’s nice to get that feedback that they valued that,” he added.

The festivals offers free talks, continual film loops and activities as part of their programme, so everyone can get involved.

Sheffield Adventure Film Festival is the perfect weekend for students who are looking for something different.

Students will be offered discounted tickets for £8.50.

The events will be taking place in the creative lounge and cafe at the showroom cinema, which is an independent cinema located in the city centre.
