The much-anticipated Festival of the Outdoors has made its annual return to Sheffield this month with events including sport, films and flowers.
Whether you are interested in guided walks, tackling some of the world’s toughest bouldering problems, or enjoying outdoors markets and film festivals, the festival promises something for everyone.
A spokesperson for the event said: “Every March, as the days are getting longer, drier, and warmer in Sheffield, we celebrate what it means to be The Outdoor City, by hosting the Festival of the Outdoors.”
Originating as The Outdoor City Weekender, and developing into the wider celebration of the festival, it helps show off Sheffield’s unique location, with one-third of the city being in the Peak District National Park. Plus, the city is built on seven hills, which means there are lots of outdoor activities to enjoy.
There are various events and entertainment throughout the month of March, including:
Sheffield Beer Week
For beer lovers, Sheffield Beer Week celebrates the city’s thriving craft beer scene and promises a week of tastings, events, and special collaborations at local pubs and breweries from 10-16 March. It is described as the ideal chance to explore the best of Sheffield’s craft beer offerings and enjoy a pint or two with friends.
South Yorkshire Orienteering
A mix of outdoor exploration and physical activity takes place from 11-26 March, South Yorkshire Orienteers will introduce newcomers and adult juniors to orienteering with the sixth race of their Saturday series, taking place in Bolehill and Crookes. Night orienteering will also take place across Loxley Common, exploring woodlands and open common lands under the stars. The range of courses cater to all skill levels.
Pollen Market
On 16 March Victoria Quays will host the Pollen Market event. This market will feature an array of local produce, greenery, food and drink traders, as well as live music and fun activities.
