A mother and her daughter duo will run the Sheffield Half Marathon this Sunday to raise money for Cancer Research UK in aid of their much loved family member.
Helen Pryde, alongside her daughter, decided to run the marathon to support her husband after he was diagnosed with lung cancer in June 2023.
Ms Pryde, 51, said: “This organisation is so important to us and many other families, the feeling of completing this is going to be so rewarding.”
She described the past couple of years as being some of the ‘toughest times of my life’.
She said: “I am so proud of my daughter for deciding to tackle this with me, she is my superstar and has been so strong during this difficult time.”
Ms Pryde also ran the Sheffield Half Marathon last year, saying the feeling of crossing the finish line was ‘thrilling’.
She said she plans on participating in the marathon again next year.
The race will start at 9.30 this Sunday, with thousands of people across the country coming to take part.
The majority of participants will complete the 13 mile race in 2-3 hours, with some of the quickest completing it in just over an hour.
It is run in the memory of Jane Tomlinson and her legacy organisation ‘Run for All’.

The start line will take place at Arundel Gate in Sheffield’s city centre, following down onto Furnival Gate and Ecclesall Road, and finishing back at the start point.
There will also be multiple road closures, including Arundel Gate, Norfolk Street, Surrey Street and Charles Street between 4am-4pm.
