There are just eight spaces left in Framework Housing Association’s battle against homelessness in this Sunday’s Sheffield Half Marathon.
The Midlands and South Yorkshire-based charity helps around 21,000 people a year with ‘dignity, compassion and respect’ at the forefront of their vision. It is one of the official charity’s for this years event, which takes place throughout the city, and is still looking for runners to complete its team.
Project and Partnership Manager, Andy Shields said Framework hopes to raise £2,000 from the event.
Mr Shields said: “We run a range of different events to attract as many people as possible and raise as much funds as we can.
“We asked each runner to raise £100 although one of the runners has already raised three and a half times that.”
Framework hope to raise over £2,000 from the event.
Shelter, a UK based homelessness organisation reported that over ‘354,000’ people in England spent the Christmas of 2024 without a home.
All the funds raised from the 13.1 mile run will go towards the charity’s Rough Sleeper team in Sheffield – where direct support will be offered to individuals and families without a home.
Mr Shields said: “We hold a strong belief that homelessness should not be happening in our country.
“We also make efforts to tackle disadvantage and discrimination wherever it occurs. We would like to see a world where those who have disabilities are treated fairly and are given an opportunity to contribute to society.”
The Half Marathon is set to start at 9:30am at Arundel Gate, Sheffield.
Over 5,000 runners are expected to run on Sunday, proceeding through the urban outskirts of the city and out into the Peak District on their climb up to Ringinglow.
Entrants are also tempted by a ‘triple test’ during the run. A timed hill climb, a 10K downhill sprint and a first to cross the finish line reward will be provided.
Mr Shields said: “We still have eight charity spaces left. People can register via our website and get half price entry into the marathon at £15.”
Runners that wish to enter must be over 17-years of age.
