Student elections have begun at the University of Sheffield and are due to close at 10pm.

This election decides who will be the student representatives for key areas at the University.

This includes: Education officer, Elected Student Trustee, International and Welfare Officer, Liberation and Activities Officer, Sustainability and Development Officer, Wellbeing and Sport Officer and the Students’ Union President.

A plethora of pamphlets for each of these positions showcase the fierce competition among student candidates who are all keen to represent their university and its student body.

However, each candidate has a common message: Change.

This is after the news that the Student Union is set to face funding cuts by the University.

A referendum is also being held, asking students if the University’s union should express ‘No Confidence’ in the University Executive Board.

In addition, students are also being asked whether or not Sheffield Students’ Union should support University staff taking Industrial Action.
