Sheffield charity Roundabout are selling 1,800 steel roses as part of their Mother’s Day fundraising campaign.
The charity began in 1977, and offers support to young people aged 16-25 who are currently homeless, at risk of homelessness, or care leavers. They support over 380 young people every day.
They are based primarily in Sheffield and Rotherham, and are able to offer a wide variety of support avenues, depending on the position a young person comes to them in.
This includes individual or group housing , employment and education opportunities, and mental health support. All of their support is designed to restore young people’s confidence and independence.
During the build-up to Mother’s Day, the charity announced they would be selling 1,800 roses, one for each young person they’ve helped since the start of the cost-of-living crisis in 2021.
Lucy Fantom, who has been fundraising with Roundabout for three years, said: “We wanted something that was going to represent each and every one of our young people.
“The rose symbolises coming to bloom and growing, and the steel aspect ties in with Sheffield. I think it’s super unique to Sheffield and it fits in perfectly.”
The roses come in two formats – mild and stainless steel, with an option to add a personalised engraving to commemorate someone special in your life.
Ms Fantom added: “Mother’s Day is a great way for us to get our roses out there, they’re genuinely really nice gifts, and the cause makes it even better.”
They will be displayed in an exhibition at Sheffield Cathedral, after which they will be released for collection.
The charity has done a variety of Mother’s Day campaigns in the past, such as digital fundraising, as well as attending volunteer fairs and networking events in and around Sheffield.
Ms Fantom said: “We want to build relationships with the people who can help our people. We’re always doing something to spread that awareness.”
