A woman based near Sheffield is planning on driving an old car to Benidorm and back in just 12 days for the Sheffield Retired Greyhounds charity.
Vicky Lounds will be driving the annual journey of nearly 3000 miles in convoy with 50 other cars each raising money for different charities on the May 5.
Miss Lounds aims to raise £3000 for the small, independent charity after she re-homed two greyhounds herself last year.
Miss Lounds, Alfreton, said about the charity: “You become part of a group and its so nice. I see with my own eyes the work that they do”.
The charity, which is based at Rotherham gate lodge, is one of the largest regional home finding kennels in the UK and is home to 26 greyhounds at any one time.
Unlike most charities, 100% of the money they receive through fundraisers such as this one will go straight to the dogs.
Sheffield retired Greyhounds charity said on their website: “We aim to provide fully vetted and loving homes for as many retired greyhounds as possible, so these beautiful animals can continue to live a full and enjoyable life at the end of their racing career”.
This is the second time Miss Lounds has undertaken the journey, and she intends on driving her daughter’s old Hyundai I30 which has no luxuries and initially cost her £700.
The car has been decorated for the trip and Miss Lounds is hoping to even add a cut out of a greyhound to go on the roof in dedication to the charity.
